Yesterday (April 12) records found that five injuries took place in road accidents across Phuket - three cases in Thalang and two in Muang Phuket. All the accidents occured with motorcycles.
Half way through for the Campaign, there have been 33 total accidents with 34 people suffering minor injuries.
On Sunday (April 13) three people were found riding without a helmet after they suffered minor injuries stemming from an accident and were charged. Two other people were drunk, as they accidentally fell off the bike.
Officials say they are keeping an eye on crowded areas and departments stores during the week of Songkran when the roads are most dangerous, dubbed "Seven Days of Danger"
"We have cooperated with the department stores in Phuket to take a careful check on vehicles and increase the prevention and protection measure from Tha Chatchai checkpoint, we have sent out the record of illegal vehicles, if the officer finds the car that mayches with the record, the police will know," said Pol Col Tassanai Orarickadech, Director of General Staff Division of the Phuket Provincial Police during a meeting on Monday morning (April 13) at Provincial Hall
"Even if there is a one percent chance of an unexpected case, we will try to figure out the measure to prevent it".
Prajiad Aksornthammakul, Chief of Phuket Offices added that he wants the checkpoints and other places to be heavily monitored for drunk drivers.
Since the first day of Seven Days of Dangers, the police have put 1,942 charges. Most of the charges are for not wearing a helmet - 879 cases - followed by charges of vehicles without license - 643 cases. Other charges included running red light (127 cases) and not wearing safety belt (123 cases).
