Fishing boat destroyed by fire

PHUKET: Officials are investigating what started a fire that destroyed a fishing boat moored near the main fishing port area in Ratsada on Sunday (Aug 27)*.

UPDATE: Phuket Marine Office Director Nachapong Pranit later confirmed that a second fishing boat, the Thong Charoensap 32, which was tied up alongside the Yutuna No. 3, was also destroyed by the fire.

The Phuket Fisheries Office also recorrected its report, confiming that the fire occurred on Sunday Aug 27, not Aug 25


Sitthipol Muangsong, Chief of the Phuket Fisheries Office, assigned three officers, lawyer Pimpisuth Sarana and Phuket Fisheries officers Tassanee Ian-leng and Nichakan Yongstar to carry out the investigation.

Firefighters called to the scene, in the Klong Noi Area, arrived to find the fishing boat Yutuna No. 03 ablaze, reported the Phuket Fisheries Office today (Aug 27).

By the time the firefighters managed to extinguish the fire, all but the hull of the boat had been destroyed.

No injuries were reported as a result of the fire.

Police and Phuket Fisheries officers are continuing their investigation.
