Fishing boat catches fire, over B3M in damages

PHUKET: Police were forced to sink a tuna fishing boat after fire broke out in the engine room early this morning (September 9) at the fishing pier.

At 12.30am, five fire trucks struggled to put out the fire as they could only spray water from outside the boat.

Fire fighters spent over two hours trying to stop the fire and some attempted to go inside the engine room, but it was locked.

They were forced to make a hole so they could spray water inside and sink the boat, in order to prevent the fire from spreading and damaging nearby boats.

Nobody was injured though some crew members suffered from smoke inhalation.

Damages resulted in over B3 million.
