FILM: A dying Star Trek fan got to see an early cut of the upcoming Paramount film Into Darkness nearly five months before its scheduled release, thanks to internet users and the new movie’s director, J.J. Abrams.

Daniel Craft, a film buff and the director of the New York Asian Film Festival, learned he had terminal cancer only six weeks ago, and died this week.

But he was able to see the film before he died, thanks to a friend who posted a plea from Mr Craft’s wife, Paige, on the Reddit website.

“One of the film’s producers showed up at the door of their apartment with a DVD containing a very rough cut of Star Trek: Into Darkness in his hands,” Mr Craft’s friend wrote in a follow-up post to the website.

“Paige had made popcorn, Dan had spent the previous day resting so he could sit through the movie, and after signing about 200 non-disclosure agreements they watched the film and had a blast,”

“Of course, he loved the film. It was the last thing he got to do before he passed away,” the friend wrote.
