“The tourists were rescued at about 7pm after beachgoers saw them struggling in the water,” Vitanya Chuayuan, Deputy Chief of the Phuket Lifeguard Service, told The Phuket News today (Aug 23).

The victims – two women, one man and a child – were from Nakhon Ratchasima, Ms Vitanya said.

Of the four, one man named only as “Mr Ongard” suffered lacerations from being pushed onto the rocks by waves.

“They went for a swim near the rocks after the beach closed and guards were packing their belongings and getting ready to leave the area,” she said.

After being alerted to the family’s plight, lifeguards went into the water and rescued the family, who were then taken to Thalang Hospital, Ms Vitanya explained.

“Last night, two of the victims remained in the hospital, but we were told that they were both discharged from the hospital this morning,” she added.

Good thing these idiots picked Surin Beach...which has some of the best lifeguards on Phuket. If these fools would have been in Kamala or Karon where the lifeguards are pretty much worthless...the article would be talking about 4 drownings.

Now what are they doing swimming and endangering their lives in heavy surf, with a child included, to top it all, at 7.00pm? Tourists. Irresponsible Tourists that do not OBEY Red Flags and then have to rescued should be FINED !!They also endanger the lives of those that have to go and rescue them.

With all the drownings going on, we need many more lifeguards to be on watch. Good for tourism. A nice employment opportunity too! with good bonuses paid for every life saved. Did I mention it would be good for tourism?

Idiots. These clown risk their lives which is selfish as other have to pull the bodies from the water but they also risk the lives of lifeguards who risk their lives to save these idiots. They should be charges and find for risking the lives of the lifeguards by swimming when the red flags are out on a closed beach. Damaging the tourism industry image, wasting hospital staffs time and money thats needed to help real sick people.
