Vice Governor Siwaporn Chuasawad and Phuekt City Mayor Somjai Suwansupana yesterday (Nov 2) led a team of local and Red Cross officials to meet with the owner of the Moo Krob Khun Yai restaurant, Ms Wanicha Tieng-u and her family, following a fire at their property on Tuesday night.
The incident happened at 7pm on Tuesday at the commercial property on Wichit Songkram Rd and left the entire second floor gutted. (See story here.)
V/Gov Siwaporn said, “Phuket Red Cross and Phuket City Municipality have donated money and other items to help the family get by. Officials have also helped remove damaged items from the second floor of the property so experts can examine the structure of the building.
“I have been told that officials from the Public Work and Town and Country Planning have inspected the property this morning and found the building to be structurally. They have also confirmed that the damage can easily be repaired,” she said.
In addition, local residents and ten students from Darasamuth School arrived at the fire damaged property yesterday to donate food, water and other items such as clothing items to the family. They also help move undamaged items to be stored in a temporary room set up behind the property.
Property owner, Ms Wanicha, said that all her belongings including jewellery, Buddha images and important documents stored on the second floor had been lost in the fire and that the estimated cost of the damage could be up to B500,000.
“We had gone out for dinner when the fire happened,” she said.
“But I would like to thank everyone for the assistance they have given us. We are not just worried about how we can repair the damage.
“I have rented this property for over six year now. However, though the owner of the property has offered to assist us with anything we need, we will probably have to come up with a lot of money to fix the place following the fire,” she added.
