Capt Yingyong Chuykij from Kathu Police received a call from local resident at 14:15pm yesterday where it was stated that a foreign woman had jumped from the fifth floor of the Good Dreams Guesthouse in Soi Nanai.

Lt Col Urumporn Khoondejsumrit from the Phuket Tourist Police and Lt Col Suthichai Tienpo from Kathu Police arrived at the scene with rescue workers to find the body of 19-year-old Ida Maria Bexar lying face down on a neighbouring property’s roof.

Capt Yingyong said, “The victim was wearing a T-shirt and short jeans and we found her purse nearby. She has been dead for more than 10 hours before her body was found.

“Residents heard a noise like something had fallen onto the roof early in the morning, but didn’t pay any attention to it until later when someone spotted the body,” he said.

“The body was taken to Patong Hospital for doctors to determine the cause of death. The embassy and her family have been notified,” he added.

The victim’s boyfriend, who police declined to name, said that he and Ms Bexar were staying at Darisa Apartments which is located next to the guest house.

Capt Yingyong said, “The victim’s boyfriend told us that at around 4am yesterday morning he and Ms Bexar had an argument so he left her in the room and came next door to spend the night with his friend at Good Dream Guesthouse.

“He said that he thinks she came to look for him at the guesthouse, then went up to the roof and jumped. He said that maybe she felt he had hurt her feelings so decided to take her own life,” he said.

“However, we are investigating to find the truth and will wait for doctors to confirm the cause of death. We have yet to rule this case as suicide,” Capt Yingyong concluded.
