The latest incarnation of a Phuketian beach club combines elements of calm and serenity, yet it is something wholly different.
Contrary to what many believe, there are still many parts of Phuket that are relatively untouched despite being a popular holiday destination.
This includes a quiet little corner on the north of the island, where Indigo Peal has launched its very own chic beach club restaurant.
The team behind Indigo Peal injected some much-needed cool into a manmade beach just a few stones throw away from the idyllic five-star resort.
For the perfect position to gaze at the Andaman Sea, head to Phuket’s west coast early evening just as the sun sets. Here you can enjoy a glorious barbecue buffet at Shore Thing from 7pm – 10pm along with a tasty bottle of wine or two.
The Phuket Newsrecently paid a trip to the venue to sample the restaurant’s hot new buffet. Set on the man-made beach, the area is set up with a few tables and chairs underneath large umbrellas, giving the venue an intimate and romantic feel; the perfect place to relax and unwind with an evening cocktail.
Once we were greeted by the restaurant’s warm and friendly staff, we were taken to our table where we had the option of looking through the sparkling cocktail menu.
The buffet itself is located a few metres away, where guests can choose from an intoxicating mix of fresh local seafood and meats such as beef and chicken.
The chefs will then cook this to your desire at the live cooking station. We had a generous option of a baked potato, corn on the cob, and stir-fried vegetables to go on the side.
The seafood selection was impeccable. From the lobster to the tender fish massaman curry to the tuna steak to the snapper, everything was consistently fresh and flavoursome. There is something magical about digging your toes into the soft sand merely steps from the sea as you crack open a lobster tail and take a refreshing sip of your margarita served in an attractive tall martini glass.
Then comes the best bit: the large salad buffet. Here you can choose from a lentil and vegetable salad; pasta salad; bruschetta; chargrilled vegetables; potato salad with crispy bacon; as well as your traditional salad trimmings. There was also an appetising selection of home-made fresh breads.
The variety of salads were refreshing and a nice treat alongside the meaty buffet.
Overall it’s clear that Shore Thing is making a concerted effort to separate itself from the competition by offering more of a romantic dinnertime entertainment venue and placing an emphasis on first-class food, drinks and service. Shore Thing is the eigth dining establishment to be added to a list of already stunning eatery options at the five-start resort. No matter where guests choose to dine, they won’t be left disappointed and Shore Thing adds a whole new dimension to the creative list of venues.
