Explore: A magical weekend

One recent, glorious weekend, my family and I headed to Koh Samui to stay in the luxurious and glamorous, five-star Nikki Beach Resort. Set on the island’s stunning west coast, Lipa Noi, Nikki Beach is the ultimate tranquil and serene luxury beach resort destination and offers the brand’s global cuisine, exciting beats, signature mojitos, and poolside events, all the while offering the comforts of a luxury resort designed by conceptual designer Eric Kuster, based on the visions of Jack Penrod.

The Koh Samui branch is currently one of the few locations in the world to offer accommodation, so we were pretty excited to check it out. The adventure began on a Sunny Saturday morning, when we drove our car from Phuket to Donsak pier in Surat Thani. From there, we got on the ferry to Koh Samui.

Upon arrival at the resort, we were greeted by some of the staff who then took us to our lovely appointed rooms. All I can say is, wow. We had two luxury bungalows, which were interconnected (perfect for the kids), shaded under Thailand’s frangipangi blossoms in the tropical garden. The rooms had beautiful views of the 75 metre swimming pool and if you looked past that, you could see the ocean.

The rooms were fully equipped with king size beds, a walk-in rain shower and an attractive MyBar (Nikki’s unique version of the mini bar) as well as comfy bathrobes and slippers.

We spent the first part of the day enjoying breakfast in the restaurant, then lazing around the pool, followed by a wonderful evening of wine and well-cooked steaks. The New York steak sandwich from the daytime menu is also a must.

The award-winning Amazing Sunday Brunch was the highlight of the weekend. The global spread included an array of cuisines and delicacies, including: omelettes, crepes, waffles, pasta, Thai stations, a wagyu grill, a raw bar as well as the Customise Your Own Champagne station. The quality of ingredients was consistently fresh and the staff could not do enough for us. In fact, we were surprised to learn that none of the staff had even trained in the hotel industry before, which is an honest reflection of how hard they work and how exceptional the service is.

The staff were very attentive and went out of their way to ensure we, and everyone else, felt comfortable and relaxed. For example, after my family and I had returned from breakfast, they had supplied extra towels for my parents, who weren’t even staying at the resort. That’s what you call attention to detail.

After another delightful breakfast on the Monday morning, we headed home. Overall, the weekend was exceptional, from the service, to the food, to the entertainment, to the rooms. Nikki Beach continues to make its mark in the most attractive addresses and trendsetting locales worldwide.
