Pattaya police received a report around midnight that a large boat was sitting on the beach, nose in the sand and with its engine running.
Police said the boat, which had seating for 47 passengers, had been sitting on the beach with the engine still running for more than three hours, according to witnesses, and nobody had left the vessel.
The police boarded the boat and found the driver, aged 45-50 years, in a very drunken state. He refused to get off the boat and paced back and forth.
A witness said the boat had run up onto the beach around 8pm yesterday, sending tourists sitting in the area running for safety.
A duty officer at Pattaya police station said on today (July 20) there was no record of the man having been charged overnight and he was probably just given some "verbal advice".
