Dope bust nets 2,000 ya ba pills

PHUKET: Cherng Talay police arrested a 30-year-old man on Tuesday (July 10) on charges of importing methamphetamines from Beungkan district of Nong Khai and selling them to local youths. They also seized 2,000 methamphetamine (ya ba) pills.

Acting on information received, the deputy chief of the Cherng Talay Investigations Division and Drugs Squad, Pol Lt Col Pongsnarint Sutin, had an undercover officer buy ya ba from Jaturachai “Nhong” Kobchaiyaseng, a native of Beungkan district.

Jaturachai was dealing drugs out of a rented house at 5 Soi Pasak, Cherng Talay Moo 4, said Pol Capt Naparoot,

“His girlfriend was employed at a Cherng Talay hotel but he was jobless – just dealing drugs to local young people.

“Our informant went in at first to buy five methamphetamine tablets. Then we made the arrest and went inside to investigate.

"A search of the residence turned up 2,000 orange-coloured ya ba pills in plastic bags, each containing 200 tablets. The drug cache was hidden in the base of an electric fan.”

Naparoot said the suspect explained he had been ordering the drugs from a local political figure in Beungkan, receiving 3,000 tablets each time. “This was his sixth load,” said the captain.

Jaturachai was brought to Cherng Talay station where he was charged with possession for sale, and selling a Schedule 1 Restricted Substance. He admitted the charges.
