The airport posted a 57.5-per-cent rise in passenger throughput in the month as fast-growing low-cost carrier traffic continued to spur passenger volumes thanks to the recovery of Thailand’s tourism from a downturn caused by political unrest a year ago before the military coup on May 22.

The airport’s owner, Airports of Thailand Plc (AoT), has released statistics showing the airport handled 2.27 million passengers (both arriving and departing) in the month.

This followed on the heels of January’s figures that showed the airport posted a robust 46.7pc year-on-year growth in passenger traffic to 2.32 million.

According to AoT, Don Muang processed 1.62 million domestic passengers in February, up by 53.2pc, and 649,578 international passengers, a 69.3pc rise.

For the whole of last year, Don Muang led Asia-Pacific in passenger growth with a 30.8pc rise, ahead of Chiang Mai and Abu Dhabi, which saw growth of 21.4pc and 20.2pc respectively, ACI tracking showed.
