Capt Suthipong Rodsong, an investigator from Khok Kloi Police Station, was notified that a man and girl had jumped from Sarasin Bridge at the north point of Phuket at 7:10pm yesterday. It was reported that the man was disabled.

Police and Kusoldharm rescue workers arrived at the scene to find a fishing boat helping to bring the man, named as Roub Dongchan, 51, and the 15-year-old girl (name withheld) from the sea.

A witness told police that before the incident the man and girl had climbed up to sit on the edge of the bridge. They then jumped together and were seen floating under the bridge.

A fishing boat passing under the bridge managed to pull the pair from the water.

Capt Suthipong said, “The man and girl were still alive when they were pulled from the water and taken to Takua Thung Hospital in Phang Nga. However, Mr Roub was later pronounced dead.

The girl is safe but is crying all the time and unable to give us any information,” he said.

The relationship of Mr Roub and the girl is currently unknown.
