At 1:30pm, Cherng Talay police were called to the scene on Srisoonthon Rd. Upon arrival, police and rescue workers found the damaged Toyota smashed into the tree on the side of the road. The body of the victim was in the driver's seat.
The victim was later identified as Pongsak Kaidchan, a food delivery man from a local hotel in Layan Beach.
Another vehicle was also involved in the incident, which was found not far from the scene, with one tail light busted.
The driver, Pisut Plaikaew, 38, was standing by for police. Mr Pisut told police that the victim came at a high speed from Baan Koktanod direction and as he reached the bend, he lost control of his vehicle before crashing into the tree.
"I stepped on the brake to avoid a head on collision but my truck swerved, and slammed into the victim's vehicle," Pisut told police while being questioned at Cherng Talay police station.
No charges have been filed and the victim's body was taken to Thalang Hospital.
