At 2:26pm, Ao Luek police were called to the scene of an accident where a delivery truck had collided head-on with a bus on Phetkasem Rd in Na Neua subdistrict.

Upon arrival at the scene, police and rescue workers found a tour bus which was carrying passengers from Phuket to Had Yai lying on its side in a ditch. A damaged Toyota truck was in the middle of the road.

Eleven passengers were trapped inside the bus, and when safely removed were taken to Ao Leuk Hospital for treatment. Of the 11, five remain in hospital with serious injuries.

The Toyota truck driver was also injured and taken to Thap Put Hospital in Phang Nga.

Witnesses told police that the tour bus was coming from the direction of Phuket and the Toyota from Surat Thani. They crashed head-on at high speed at a set of traffic lights which were not working.

Police are currently investigating the incident further.
