The Mirror Foundation has reported that there are more than 5,000 beggars across the country with many of them being Cambodian children.
The ministry also reported that several foreign beggars have masqueraded as nuns and holy people venturing out on streets to seek “donations” from members of the public. Many of them reportedly earn between B300-1,800 a day and reportedly spent the money buying alcoholic drinks or visiting night entertainment venues.
