Pol Gen Chakthip said he had instructed Pol Lt Gen Sanit to reduce congestion by 40-50 per cent by February because of the many complaints from the public.
“Let’s wait to see whether he will be able to do this. I am not a power-monger who transfers his men without proper justification. If he is good, he will get my backing. He is working hard, but traffic is the main problem to be solved now,” he said.
The police chief said the acting Metropolitan Police chief could face repercussions if he cannot accomplish his assignment.
He said Pol Lt Gen Sanit earlier asked for two months and later bargained for three.
“Metropolitan police of all commanding levels are duty-bound to solve the traffic problem in their own areas of jurisdiction. I want to see this fully implemented,” said Pol Gen Chakthip.
