Frosty the Snowman
Frosty the Snowman can hang off your tree in just a few easy steps. We can get really creative with light bulbs! You’ll need: one light bulb, white glitter, glue (spray adhesive works best), string or ribbon, colored markers, and some twigs.
Tie the ribbon or string around the metal part of the bulb (make it tight, this will be used to hang our snowman) and cover the glass with glue (make sure there are no bald spots!). Sprinkle the glitter over the bulb, covering the entire glass.
After it dries (about 2 hours), glue twig arms onto the sides of the snowman. Then, paint the snowman’s face!
Santa Claus
To make our favourite, a Santa Claus ornament, all we need is a toilet paper roll, scissors, one red and one white piece of paper, string, glue, and a black marker.
Cover and glue the red paper onto the roll. Once dry, fold in one side of the end of our red roll followed by the other side – the end should have two points sticking up on the side (figure 3). Do the same for the other end of the roll. Make a hat for Santa by pressing together two sides of one end. Fold out the two lower ends to make Santa’s boots. Glue a piece of string onto the hat.
To make Santa’s face, cut a triangle out of the white paper and glue it onto the roll with the point down. Draw the face however you’d like, along with his boots and belt with the black marker – then hang him on the tree!
Straws!
Take out your drinking straws! This simple decoration can either be hung or just laid about to create a festive showpiece. For this you’ll need a few hundred straws (to make more than one decoration), two cans of spray paint (best to use a combination of gold, silver and/or red), and plastic straps/zip ties.
Use about 40-60 straws at one time. Turn half of them over and bundle them all in your hand evenly. Using a zip tie or plastic strap, tie the middle of the bundle tightly. Then, bend back them all back and unfold the flexible parts of the straws. Either outside or in a well-ventilated area, spray-paint the straws, let it all dry and then place where you wish (figure 6).
