The body of the 40-year old woman* was found shortly at about 6am, said Chalong Police.
She was found hanged by a nylon rope, though her left leg was still draped over a blue plastic chair beneath her.
Police believe the woman died about six hours before her body was found. She was dressed in denim shorts and a shirt featuring a blue-and-red floral design with a large white motif of a royal crown.
Police at the scene found a smart phone and a pink wallet containing B1,700, 125 yuan, 168 Malaysian Ringgit and her passport, as well as credit cards, personal ID documents and some fruit and snacks.
“We did not find any signs of a struggle or assault. Her body has been taken to Vachira Phuket Hospital for further examination, one police officer told The Phuket News.
“We have also to question people in the area in case they saw something,” he said.
The Chinese Consul in Phuket has been informed of the death, the officer added
* The Phuket News is withholding the woman’s name until it has been confirmed her next of kin have been notified.
