Pol Sen Sgt Maj Jirapat Navatong of Phuket Tourist Police told The Phuket News, “We understand he went into the sea on his own and was not wearing a buoyancy aid.

“He was carried off by a current. People saw that he was in trouble and tried to save him but the waves were strong and by the time they got to him it was too late.

“The body was brought back to Chalong Pier and was then taken to Vachira Phuket Hospital for autopsy and to await arrangements for repatriation.”
