Lai Xiaochang, 22, was rushed to Krabi Hospital after friends found her unconscious in the water while snorkelling at the popular tourist day-trip destination Koh Gai (Chicken Island), near Poda Island. She was with a tour group from Nang-ann tour. (See story here.)

Seemingly saved from drowning, Ms Lai was alive and seemed to be partially aware but remained unresponsive in the intensive-care unit (ICU). Doctors believed she had suffered at least partial brain damage. (See story here.)

“The hospital notified us yesterday (Oct 10) that the victim had died in the ICU at 6pm,” Lt Col Attapong Sankraiwuth of the Krabi Tourist Police told The Phuket News today (Oct 11).

“She was surrounded by her family and friends,” he added.

Col Attapong said that he did not know what caused Ms Lai to finally succumb to her condition.

“Actually today (Oct 11) the tour company and the victim’s family were supposed to meet to discuss insurance coverage, but we are still waiting for doctors to issue death certificate marking the cause of death,” he concluded.

Very true, Ed sanders, No body thai feels personal involved or caring about foreign tourist, they are just seen as alien by the thai boat drivers, thai tour guides.
These people can not think, no brains, no education, not trained in their jobs and with just air between the ears not caring for those who are in their care for a whole day.
Of course the money they take.
Money-money-money. Thai-thai-thai is this field of tourist industry.
For anyone who disagree, I challenge to tell me about any other country where so many Chinese die/wounded as in Thailand.
And I tell you, Chinese now travel all over the world.

Very sad, a beautiful 22 year old life tragically ended. There is no secret that Chinese are not strong swimmers, many having never seen the ocean before, let alone swim in it. But as long as they pay their few thousand baht to the tour clowns...they are good to training, and no oversight once they hop off the boat. Inspite of all the deaths, nothing has changed, which just proves once again that Thais seem unable or unwilling to look after the safety and welfare of tourists.
