The popular restaurant Cefalu’ at Surin Beach has closed, citing Phuket's beach-clearing crackdown as having a devastating effect in the business.

In a notice issued this week, the restaurant management said, “After five years of rewarding operations, Cefalu’, Surin beach, will definitely close its doors on March 13 2016.

“In view of the controversial decisions taken by the Phuket authorities to close down all businesses on Surin Beach, and furthermore forbidding chairs and umbrellas on the beach, the number of tourists has dramatically decreased in this last high season.

“The coming long low season, has therefore convinced us that it is no longer worthwhile to continue running a business on Surin beach, especially for the uncertainty created by the authorities who intimate us monthly to leave without further delay.”

The company will now focus its efforts efforts on the Cefalu’ restaurant in Patong, located Soi Banzaan, behind the Jungceylon

Cefalu’ Patong will be open 24 hours, serving Thai and Italian food, together with breakfasts in the morning, and providing a 24-hour food delivery in the Patong area.
