Kathu Police Capt Yingyong Chuoykij was called to the long-standing Tropica Bungalow Resort on the Patong beach road just before 6am, where staff led the officers to the room where the body of a Canadian man they named as Michel Jerry Talbot, 28, was still lying on his bed.
“We found no signs of robbery or assault,” Capt Yingyong said.
“Mr Shannon, a male friend of Mr Talbot, told us that they came back from a night out at around 11pm and went to bed without changing.
“At 5:30am, Mr Shannon called for help after Mr Talbot told him that he had chest pain and difficulty breathing. But when help arrived, Mr Talbot was already in shock.
“He was taken to Patong Hospital, but pronounced dead upon arrival,” Capt Yingyong said.
Dr Unchisa Kittiyankul at Patong Hospital said that doctors there had yet to confirm the cause of death.
“We found no sign of injury on the body, but we are hoping that further medica examination will confirm the cause of death,” Dr Unchisa said.
The Canadian embassy in Bangkok and the family have been notified of Mr Talbot’s death, Capt Yingyong confirmed.
