British man claims B100,000 worth of cash left in Bangkok taxi

BANGKOK: British man John Richard Duffy, a 60-year-old British businessman, returned to Bangkok from Myanmar on Wednesday after realising he left a bag containing B100,000 worth of cash in the back of a taxi.

Coconuts Bangkok reported that taxi driver Sudjai Chaihabood picked up Mr Duffy on Monday (January 21) to take him to Suvarnabhumi Airport.

Mr Sudjai later found out that his passenger had forgotten a yellow bag filled with B100,000 worth of US dollars and Myanmar kyat in the cab’s back seat.

Mr Sudjai drove around the airport a few times in the hope that the owner would realise he had lost the money and come out to take it back.

But Mr Duffy, 60, a Bangkok businessman, did not return to Bangkok until Wednesday night to collect his money.

“This amount of money means a lot to our company,” said Mr Duffy.

Mr Sudjai told Coconuts Bangkok earlier this week he was not comfortable spending other people’s money.

“I have been a taxi driver for 20 to 30 years and this is my fist time that I discovered this much money. I just wish to return it to the owner as soon as possible.”
