The driver, Aphitchart Toreewong, 51, told police that he was delivering construction materials from a store in Thalang to a worksite near Baan Zaan in Patong when the truck began running out of control down Kamala Hill at about 3pm.

“I could not brake, so the truck ran out of control until it flipped over,” Aphitchart said.

Aphitchart suffered minor injuries to his right arm and his passenger, a Myanmar national named by police only as “Honart”, 30, hurt his back. Both were taken to Thalang Hospital.

Kamala Police redirected traffic around the crashed truck while local council workers washed the road clear of the spilled construction materials, which included busted open bags of cement.

Driver Aphitchart was charged with reckless driving and travelling with an unsecured load.
