Boy, 15, arrested in Phuket for illegal Xanax possession

PHUKET: A 15-year-old was one of two people arrested in Phuket Town yesterday (January 18) after being found in possession of a total of 250 pills of the prescription drug alprazolam, the drug marketed as Xanax to treat anxiety and other disorders brought on by cancer treatment.

When abused, Xanax can induce a high that can be enhanced by alcohol. Regular use can bring on addiction, with mood swings, compulsive behaviour and aggression.

Thanin Kumbaan, 22, from Koh Kaew, was arrested in front of the 7-Eleven store in Soi Kingkaew with 150 pills and the 15-year-old, from Phang Nga, was caught near Phuket Wittayalai School with another 100 pills. For legal reasons the boy may not be named.

Both were charged with possession of restricted medicines without a permit.

Meanwhile today (January 19) Kathu Police arrested three men after searching their rooms and finding 2.1 grams of crystal methamphetamine. Worawut Islam, 34, Sarawut Tongpan, 36, and Suwit Susoa, 29, face a charge of possession of a Category 1 narcotic with intent to sell.
