Body of Phuket fisherman found floating in Andaman sea

PHUKET: The body of a fisherman who was reported missing last Friday (June 19) when he fell from the boat he was fishing from with his wife was found floating in the Andaman Sea this morning (June 23).

At 11am Kusoldharm rescue workers took a long tail boat and speedboat to an area three kilometres off Ao Yamu in Pakhlok to retrieve the decomposed body of a male found floating in the sea.

A rescue worker said, “The victim, who was about 165-170cm tall had been dead for at least 5 days.”

The body of the man was taken to Vachira Hospital where it was identify as Manop Polpirom, 34, from Talad Yai by family members and the local village headman.

A family member stated that Mr Manop was fishing near Koh Khai with his wife on June 19 when their boat was hit by a wave causing Mr Manop to fall from the boat.

A search and rescue team had been looking for him since Friday after his wife went to the local district office asking for help.

The victim̕s family are now awaiting autopsy results before they can perform burial rites.
