Marine Police named the man as Seung Jinseo, 46, from South Korea, correcting initial reports that he was South Korean national Seo Seungin, 41. (See story here.)

Rescue teams reported the news at about 3pm today (August 14) after receiving a report of a body found off Koh Pu (Crab island), which lies immediately offshore from Karon Beach.

The report was called in by a passing Phuket dive boat.

A team of Marine Police officers was immediately dispatched to recover the body, which will be taken to Vachira phuket Hospital, in Phuket Town, a Marine Police officer told The Phuket News.

Mr Seung was seen ignoring red ‘no swimming’ flags and entering the dangerous surf at Kata Noi Beach on Wednesday evening. Efforts by lifeguards on duty failed to bring him safely back to shore. (See story here.)

A search-and rescue-effort was launched on Wednesday and continued throughout yesterday, but failed to find Mr Seo until today.
