Year 12 student Wong FuKang took gold in the Menʼs 100 metres Breaststroke and became the first Malaysian to ever win Gold at the Commonwealth Youth Games as he raced to out-touch some tough competition from England and South Africa.

FuKang led from start to finish and made his turn at the 50 metres mark in a time of 29.7. His competitors were closing in on him in the final 50 metres but he managed to hold on to take the gold.

One day later on 9 September, FuKang added to his medal tally by racing to the gold in the 50m Breaststroke, having been ranked 2nd after this morning's qualifying swim. A few adjustments to his race strategy and he took another gold for Malaysia in 28.92 seconds.
