BISP prepares to kick-off 14th Soccer Sevens

38 schools from 12 countries will play in the 14th edition of the BISP Soccer Sevens.

38 schools from 12 countries will play in the 14th edition of the BISP Soccer Sevens.

In 2015 the school has hit a record number of players for this yearly festival of football, with 1,600 competitors, 142 teams, 38 schools, from 12 countries.

“It's remarkable how this tournament has continued to grow year on year, and we are very proud that the 2015 Sevens will be the biggest we've ever held,” said BISP Headmaster Neil Richards.

“I can guarantee that everyone involved in the tournament will take away memories that will last a lifetime,” the Headmaster continued.

“Of course, all athletes compete to win, and I am sure many of the competitors at the BISP Soccer Sevens will try their utmost to do so, but for most of us throughout our sporting careers we have also had to learn how to lose.

“This is by far the most valuable lesson, because it is how we are able to react to failure that will largely determine future success, not only in sport but also throughout our lives,” he added.

Tournament Director Jeff LaMantia has been involved with the BISP Soccer Sevens since the very first tournament back in 2001.

“This year I'm looking forward to hosting the largest ever Soccer Sevens at the school, watching talented football, and seeing kids playing with sportsmanship.

“Compared to 14 years ago, the tournament is more international in scope now, and the talent on show also means it's much more competitive – there are some very big schools taking part, and if you win you definitely have a good team on your hands.

“I'd really like to thank the entire BISP community – staff, parents, students and volunteers – for all their hard work in putting this event together and their amazing help. An event like this can't happen without the support of the whole community. Good luck to everyone,” said Mr LaMantia.
