Belarussian’s Phuket ‘dead people plantation streak’ just a visa-run stunt: police

PHUKET: Police have confirmed that the Belarussian man who streaked naked through a rubber plantation in northern Phuket earlier this week after “he saw dead people” was just a stunt after he found out that a friend had taken his passport with him to Penang on a visa run.

Kirill Belov, 34, from Belarus, was taken to Thalang Hospital on Tuesday night (Nov 8) amid concerns for his welfare after he was found walking naked down a street in Baan Prusompan, in Thepkrasattri subdistrict.

Local residents reported that he while was running naked through the area he screamed that he could see dead people, “both good and bad”. (See story here.)

“While questioning Mr Belov and his friend (Aliaksandr Siarheyeu, 34, also from Belarus), we were told that the man was upset that his passport was with another friend who went to Penang for a visa run without him,” Capt Norot Boonsiri of the Thalang Police told The Phuket News today (Nov 11).

“He was upset and stripped down just to get attention from his friend,” he said.

Mr Belov tested negative for drugs and alcohol immediately after the incident – and has been deemed of sane mind by doctors, Capt Norot said.

“The man was tested for drugs and alcohol that night and the tests came back negative, and doctors have confirmed that he is not crazy,” he explained.

Mr Belov has since been released from custody, and Capt Nirot believes that Mr Belov has already left the country.

“I think he probably went down to Malaysia to join his friends there now,” he said.
