There are many unique attractions in Phuket and one of them is the Phuket Drum Circle (PDC) It is a bimonthly free public event where people play different kinds of percussions together while sitting or standing in a circle on the beach. Some people play, others dance, and others simply enjoy the event. No experience is needed and anyone can play by bringing a hand drum or percussion. Some people bring extra drums and percussions for people who don’t have any. Drum Circles are reported to have several benefits which include destressing, promoting unity, and healing.
Drum circles are popular in most countries around the world, especially in English-speaking countries. While there are other drum gatherings in Bangkok and Chiang Mai, the Phuket Drum Circle is the first and only public drum circle in Thailand. It has a website (http://phuketdrumcircle.weebly.com) and Facebook page (Phuket Drum Circle).
Marco Monti founded the PDC in 2012 with the goal of estabilishing a non-profit public rhythm event for everyone. Since then he has opened a company that facilitates drum circles for corporate and wellness groups (see www.synergydrum.com).
On July 26, the PDC will celebrate its third anniversary at Patong Beach, across from Bangla Rd from 4pm to 7pm. More details are on the PDC Facebook page. Generally, the PDC is held the second Sunday of the month at Naiharn and the last Sunday at Patong. In case of rain a nearby venue is announced on Facebook. If you hear your inner rhythm calling to join the drum circle, follow its advice. You may find yourself making a life-changing decision!
Class Act Media is a proud sponsor of this event.
