The competition is open to school bands with members between the ages of eight and 17 years old. Bands are required to have three members or more, and students are only permitted to play in one band. The bands can comprise of vocal groups performing to backtracks, as well and the more traditional format with members playing instruments.
The competition will be limited to 10 bands on a 1st come basis. The winning band will again walk away with a massive B25,000 in cash sponsored by the Phuket International Academy. The 2nd placed band will leave with B15,000 in cash rounding out PIA’s B40,000 cash sponsorship. The 3rd placed band will take home B10,000 sponsored by the Hard Rock Café Phuket.
Last year’s winners Legends of Siam are not eligible to defend their title this year since they have a band member outside of the age rules. The same goes for last year’s 2nd placed band LeePree who also have members over the age limit, and 3rd placed Eye Forgot dissolved after the majority of their members graduated and headed off to further their studies abroad.
Phuket International Academy have again pledged to sponsor a total cash prize of B40,000, and the Hard Rock Café Phuket have committed to a B10,000 cash prize, along with hosting the event. They will also afford all local supporters of the competition a 20 per cent discount on all food and beverages.
