Kumsue Janpetch, 37, who lives close by, spotted the animal in distress, and called the Kusoldharm Foundation.
Ms Kamsue said the well had not been used for a long time and grass had grown up around it and covered it. The young buffalo usually came to eat around the area, and today fell in.
She called others living nearby and together they tied a rope around the animal’s horns, and attached the rope to a piece of 2x4 laid across the top of the well, so that the buffalo would not sink below the surface and drown.
The Kusoldharm volunteers arrived, used a piece of cloth as a sling under the buffalo’s belly and, after an hour of heaving this way and that, managed to pull the animal out of the well.
