Peter McShane, 69, experienced difficulties while in the water, said a report on the Navy public relations Facebook page.
“Tour staff brought him back on board the dive boat and called the Royal Thai Navy for assistance at 1:30 pm,” said the report.
“Mr McShane was bleeding from his nose and mouth,” the report added.
The Royal Thai Navy rescue team arrived and administered CPR (cardiopulmonary resuscitation) and oxygen to him, but to no avail.
Mr McShane’s body was returned to Phuket.
Meanwhile, a rescue team was dispatched to render assistance to the captain of cargo ship 35 nautical miles Northwest of Phuket yesterday (Oct 19).
“We received a report that the captain of the Oriole, sailing under the flag of the Marshall Islands, needed urgent medical assistance,” reported the Navy.
“He was retrieved from the ship and brought to Phuket, where he is now recovering in hospital.”
