Army clears Red Shirt assembly in Bangkok

BANGKOK: Soldiers began clearing the United Front for Democracy against Dictatorship (UDD) rally site on Utthayarn Road in Bangkok’s Tawee Wattana district shortly after army chief Prayuth Chan-ocha announced the coup this afternoon (May 22).

Reports said the soldiers took key UDD leaders into custody and ordered the protesters to return home.

Meanwhile, soldiers were waiting for an order to move in on the anti-government protest site on Chaeng Wattana Road managed by Luang Pu Buddha Isara of the People's Democratic Reform Committee.
