Air search for fisherman missing off coast of Phuket called off

PHUKET: The air search for a missing fisherman who was swept off a fishing boat 15 miles off the west coast of Phuket last Thursday (Nov 5) has now been called off. The sea search has now been handed over to marine police who have asked boats going out in the area to look out for a body.

Lieutenant Commander Niroj Mudmid yesterday (Nov 11) told The Phuket News that the Navy have not stopped searching for Suriya Bausri and that Marine Police ad Royal Navy patrol units are continuing the search, Fishing vessels, tour boats and cargo boats have also been asked to look out for him.

The disappearance of Mr Suriya, who was one of 40 crew on the fishing boat, was reported by the boat’s captain Somnieg Jareonrak, and Vice-Admiral Sayan Prasongsamrej, Commander of the Royal Thai Navy’s Third Area, immediately ordered his officers to search for the missing man. (See story here)
