A taste of Bliss

Having been fortunate enough to experience some of the most luxurious and exquisite areas to eat on the island, I feel confident in knowing which ones stand out amongst the rest. Although Bliss Beach Club may not be a new spot, it certainly does itself proud in presenting some of the finest delicacies on the island, a classic cocktail menu, as well as a friendly, warm, attentive team of experts.

I recently headed there just as the sun started to set, and trust me when I tell you it’s worth checking out the venue during this hour. The beach club is set on Phuket’s northern Bang Tao Beach, so the views overlooking the Andaman Sea are simply incredible. And what’s more is that there is a long stretch of sand, so it feels really peaceful, secluded and spacious.

I’ve done my fair amount of reviews and I feel it’s crucial to highlight how the experience is not simply just about the food, but rather how welcoming the staff are. We were greeted by the club’s GM, Pepe, and Chef Garfield, their most talented chef in recent times.

It is down to the team as to whether they chooose to leave you and your party to it, or if they wish to join in on the evening’s shenanigans. I have to admit, being fortunate enough to be within their presence was what made the night so special. Rather than just sit down, sample all the latest dishes, and casually let the night go past, we in fact spent the evening getting to know the staff, understand the beach club and learn about the chef and how he got to be in Phuket. And what’s more, they gave us first hand knowledge on each of the dishes and served us an endless amount of spectacular authentic wine.

The staff selected various special dishes for our party to sample. First up, we were served some delicious nachos, which came with seared Wagyu striploin with avocado, Nam Jim Jaew, and smoked jalapeño chilli. These were delicious and unusual, something that I had never tried before. The tenderness of the beef went perfectly with the kick of the chilli. The sweet taste of the dipping sauce (Nam Jim Jaew) was a little treat and once combined with the rest, was packed full of flavours.

Next up, the table were served some quesadillias, which came in a variety of different flavours. Each option came with a base filling of cheddar and jack cheese, fire roasted tomato salsa and either Wagyu steak, marinated chicken, wild mushrooms, or sea prawns. We tried the Wagyu steak, which as you can imagine was faultless.

Let’s get on to my favourite dish: the Bliss burgers – 275gm of pure perfection. The beef was thoroughly cooked and was topped with goat’s cheese, Mediterranean olives, pickled relish, rocket, and oven-dried tomatoes, served with garlic parmesan fries. Burgers can often be too oily and acidic, but this was a fine example of what a burger should taste like.

We were also served a number of other dishes including seabass fillet, soft shell crab salad, seared Yellowfin Ahi Tuna served on taco chips, but a dish in particular that will stay with me for a long time was the Australian lamb massaman curry, served with steamed rice. When I first tasted it, the lamb was so tender that I found it hard to believe it wasn’t beef! It was cooked to perfection and it just melted in your mouth. Curries can at times be too heavy, but the lamb and potatoes combination in this dish left you wanting more.

Finally it was time for desserts, and boy were we in for a treat. By this point I was so full, but with such a selection of treats how could anyone say no? The staff brought us out peach and Crème Brulee Napolean as well as chocolate spring rolls, which for me, was the star of the show. I had never experienced such a heavenly dish. I am not usually one for sweets, but the spring rolls were so unique I was intrigued as to what they tasted like. The rolls were a mix of dark and milk chocolate, baked in a crisp pastry, served with some fresh juicy strawberries. I believe that’s what they call the dream!

Overall, our party had a wonderful evening. The quality of ingredients were consistently fresh, the service was second to none and we were welcomed by such a level of professionalism amongst all the staff. The beach club deserves its place as one of the top end clubs on the island and the dishes created by the new chef are definitely worth checking out.
