At 3:30pm today Kamala Police were alerted of the accident, which occurred in the Kuan Yuck area on the hill between Patong and Kamala.
At the scene of the accident the driver of the six wheeler, named as Mr Supachai Padoongwitee, 27, told police that he was coming from Patong and en route to Kamala when he saw the rot saleng ahead, but couldn't brake in time to avoid the ensuing collision.
The driver of the rot saleng, Mr Maan Maadlai, 71, was thrown off into the roadside drain and died at the scene.
