10 Thai women arrested for prostitution in India

INDIA: Ten Thai women were arrested in Jaipur, India on prostitution charges for allegedly running two brothels masquerading as massage parlours.

The Press Trust of India reported that eighteen people in all – including eight men – were charged with violating India’s Immoral Trafficking Act.

The arrests came after complaints from local residents about the supposed spas being fronts for prostitution.

The manager of the Thai Harmony Spa at the Crystal shopping mall in Banipark, four Thai women and helpers were taken into custody. A raid of the nearby Crystal Spa netted six more young Thai women, three customers and the manager.

Police said the accused prostitutes charged B1,600-B3,200 for the massage and illicit extras.

Police have confiscated the women’s passports and are checking their immigration status, the paper reported.
