Played in front of about 1,200 loyal fans under periodic downpours, the match was both side's 17th of 38 fixtures for the Yamaha League One (YL1) 2015 season.

On the back of their fourth-straight league loss, Phuket came out for a battle, determined to regain form, and the confidence of supporters and coaches alike.

Luckily for Phuket, Angthong did not field their top striker, Brazilian Alex Luis Da Costa Ruela (8 goals).

Nonethelss Phuket's backline was constantly under fire by rapid-dash fronts led by the Rice Warriors' swift, second leading scorer and former Phuket striker, Kendall Jagdeosingh from Trinidad & Tobago, who was ever determined to score his 8th goal against the side that released him at the end of last season.

But Phuket's defensive game was sufficient, and the handful of clear chances that the visitors did manage to get through the lines, were dually denied by Phuket's towering savior, Piyawat Intharapim.

Captain Yusuke Sato and defensive midfielder Moussa Sylla coordinated well to put a stop to many o' threat, with the Ronins effectively extinguishing momentum on nearly a dozen set plays.

The second half saw both sides eager to break the ice, with both Ndebi Berlin (32) and Wasin Samasin (11) bringing the crowd to their toes with acrobatic bicycle-kick attempts that narrowly missed the mark.

And the home crowd went wild after one free kick saw Sato breach the Angthong wall to head the ball home, only to be denied by the lineman's checkered flag.

Other than that Phuket were mostly in a defensive formation, eager on the counter attack with Andres Lopes struggling to connect to Ndebi in the center, who always had two, and sometimes three markers.

About halfway through the second half, the home crowd was enraged when the referee ejected the hot-headed Alef Poji for back-talking after being dished a yellow card for slamming the ball down in protest to a call.

Accordingly, Phuket had to readjust their formation to compensate, replacing senior attacking midfielder Pipat with younger defensive midfielder, Pradipat who proved to effectively reinforce some defensive vulnerabilities.

The game only seemed to heat up, with the referee stopping play constantly, and handing out a total of 8 yellow cards – four to each side – in addition to the sole red card.

But the game's temperature was all emotion, as neither side could find the composure, consistency and combination to gain the advantage as the final whistle sealed the 0-0 scoreline.

As a result, Phuket FC have temporarily moved up one spot, into 13th place with 21 points, while Angthong have, for the time, retained their 2nd placed position in the YL1 with 27 points.

The rankings will be finalized pending the results of five more YL1 matches tonight (below).

Wins or draws by either PTT Rayong and/or Samut Songkhram would push Phuket back down into 14th place.
