Trick or treat for a good cause

PHUKET: Trick or treat on the beach with cocktails! Put on your best costume and come down to Bliss Beach Club on Surin Beach for a Halloween Party. It’s on Saturday (October 27), tickets are B3,000, 50 per cent of which is donated directly to the Good Shepherd Charity in Phuket.

Friday 12 October 2012 03:30 PM

Tickets include an all inclusive buffet dinner and an open bar from 7pm-midnight. There are many exclusive rewards to be given away for the raffle, best costume prize and a lucky door prize.

There will be a live band, followed by DJ James spinning the night away and a special spooky Zumba performance to get the party rocking. Contact Carol (081 978 0090) or Bliss (076 510 150) to buy tickets.

The proceeds raised from this event will go towards the Good Shepherd Phuket’s Mon-Burmese School in Bang Jo. Currently this school supports children from the local Burmese worker camps where over 100 poor families are living in a crowded and insanitary community.

Approximately 50 children living in this camp cannot attend the Bang Jo school due to lack of transportation. This fundraiser will assist this need by providing a large bus which the headmaster can rent to transport the children.

The school provides English, Thai and Burmese language education with the goal that students can eventually transfer over into the Thai education system. Currently the building is unfinished; there are no chairs or tables nor basic learning materials. Only two teachers teach three classes and there is no library or canteen.

The Good Shepherd Sisters and their lay-partners work in direct service with women, children, families and victims of human trafficking to improve dignity, support self-sufficiency, and enhance the quality of life to those who have been excluded from the benefits of society.
