Mr Chakkrit Parapanthakul, director-general of Treasury Department, said today (April 15) that field inspections by department officials of Koh Tao, a popular tourist destination, had shown that several resorts had encroached on the department’s land.
The panel comprises officials from the department, Surat Thani provincial administration and from other related agencies. The panel will be split up in two with one focusing on encroachers on watershed areas and the other concentrating on slope areas – both of which are prohibited for occupation and utilisation.
Mr Chakkrit said that, however, the department would allow leasees of the department’s land with improper contracts to report themselves to department officials to have their contracts fixed.
