A pick-up truck loaded with firewood was travelling north towards Ranong when a tyre burst. The driver lost control and the truck swerved into the opposite lane, colliding with a pick-up coming the other way. The tour bus, following close behind, smashed into the back of the second pick-up.

Pol Lt Chaleamsak Aksorntien of Thai Muang Police told The Phuket News yesterday, “The trucks and the van were smashed up but no one was badly hurt. The tour company has already transferred the tourists to another vehicle.”

The driver of the firewood truck suffered minor injuries and was treated at a nearby government clinic. “He is fine,” said Lt Chaleamsak.
