Sara Mapelli – a beekeeper based in Portland, Oregon – used special pheromone oil to attract the bees, a treatment that she says is equivalent to the scent of 100 queen bees.
“These 12,000 bees push with their powerful wings from each side of my body, I resist and then I let go and flow and move with them,” Mapelli wrote on her website.
“It is a deep mediation and I feel the hive mind surround me, hold me, and expand my body on a cellular level.”
This is not Mapelli's first time performing the stunt, she tried it for the first time in 2001 and has since been stung over 100 times though she says it does not bother her.
“I just want people to understand that they don't need to fear nature,” she said.
