PHUKET: A 24-year-old painter embarrassed police in Patong on Friday night (May 11) when he simply walked into the ground-floor police station office of the Deputy Superintendent for Investigations, Pol Lt Col Paisarn Sungthep, and walked off with a pistol and a laptop computer.

Col Paisarn told The Phuket News today (May 13) that he had left his office on a matter of duty. “I forgot to lock the door before I went out and nobody was around at the time. He stole my Apple MacBook Pro and my .32 pistol.”

The thief, after his raid on Col Paisarn’s room, walked out of the police station, went up to a motorbike taxi driver outside and demanded a free ride out of there.

Soon after, officers apprehended Bunpot Srina in front of the Soi Banthai Beach Resort & Spa where he had been dropped by the motorbike taxi. He was still in possession of the stolen goods, and admitted he planned to sell them to get money to buy drugs.

The stolen property was returned to Col Paisarn, who admitted, “It was a bit careless of me. But this man must be crazy – sane people don’t steal from a police station.”
