Just reopened as a steakhouse, Lotus Thai restaurant has been run by the Ratanapinsiri family for around 30 years, in the same Sino-Portuguese shophouse at 119 Phang Nga Rd.
The friendly Sevalee “Ling” Ratanapinsiri, daughter of owners Kawee and
Aree Ratanapinsiri, is the face of the restaurant, and says the redesign has been a real family effort, with many relatives providing furnishings and giving them support.
The quirky mint green shophouse is certainly an eye-catcher when driving through the old town.
“Mum and Dad were thinking about closing the shop and retiring,” says Ling, “But then we came up with the idea for a steakhouse, as there are not many of these in Phuket Town.
“We love steak so we decided to change the restaurant to a steakhouse, but we
have added other dishes such as pasta, while still cooking Thai food.”
The menu is relatively extensive, with Phuket beef steak (B295), salmon steak (B229) and pork steak (B120-190), plus various other western dishes, such as well-priced pasta dishes (B90 upwards), Currywurst (German sausage for B120), hash browns (B60) and potato croquettes (B60).
Keeping things in the family, Ling’s father, Khun Kawee works as the head waiter while her mother, Khun Aree runs the kitchen.
“It’s homely and modern here. I think for steak and farang food, the prices are pretty decent really.”
