The CBBs take early lead in opening day of the 12th Phuket Int'l Cricket Sixes 2015

CRICKET: The 12th Phuket International Cricket Sixes got off to a cracking start as day one of the Asian Cricket Sixes Tour saw plenty of action at the Republic Phuket football ground on Thursday (April 16).

The CBBs, an International Touring Club based in Chiang Mai, started their campaign with two impressive wins. The team defeated Sharifally Huzifers in an exciting tussle. Despite solid batting from Sharifally’s Curtis and Babs, the game was beyond doubt for the CBBs with Jack Joy retiring after making 33 runs off seven balls.

CBBs followed with a solid win over Bat69 from India. Joy again impressed with the bat making an entertaining 35 off eight balls. Karan Suri made an impressive 33 for Bat 69, however this was not enough to win, even after some good bowling by Vishal.

Bat 69 were then up against the Sharifally Huzifers. This match was the closest contest of the day with Bat 69 just holding off the Huzifers by seven runs. Sharifally’s Curtis retired with 32 runs, however Bat 69 made light work of the chase.

In the first match of the day, the Kuwait Hawks defeated the Sedgwick Cricket Club from Victoria, Australia. Roy and Imran from the Hawks both retired and the Hawks reached an imposing score of 97. Sedgwick started the chase with an impressive 34 from Phillip, however were unable to chase down the score.

A highlight was an exciting regional match between Narayanganj Club of Bangladesh and Gauhati Town Cricket Club from Assam in India. Narayanganj posted 93 with last week’s Chiang Mai Sixes Star Joshi retiring on 32. Deep batted very well for Gauhati Town with 33 runs, even though injured, however Narayanganj bowled well to restrict.

Gauhati Town Club then fought back in their next match against the Southern Stars to win an exciting encounter. Batting first they made 94 runs, with Gupta, Deep and Bora’s impressive batting contributing to this large score. The Southern Stars batted well to make 73 runs with Hayden Smith making 29.

The other match of the day was the Australian Derby between Baulkham Hills Lobats of Sydney against the exciting Mungoorbada Bushrangers from the Northern Territory, Australia, led by Marcus Rosas. Baulkham Hills prevailed in an interesting encounter where they made 87, with Lasith retiring for 33. Curtis Shadforth batted really well to retire for the Bushranger with 32, however this proved to be not enough.
