In January the THAI board announced details of its fleet plans for the coming six years. Already on order are 12 Airbus A330-300s, eight Boeing 777-300ERs, and six of the giant double-decker Airbus A380-800s.

The A380-800 deliveries will see THAI finally catch up with its regional rival, Singapore Airlines, which in 2007 was the first to take delivery of the huge aircraft, which can carry as many as 853 passengers.

THAI will also decommission 26 older aircraft, and 37 new aircraft will be bought to replace these. By 2017 the fleet will consist of 105 aircraft.
