Phuket braces for heavy weather, small boats advised to stay ashore

Phuket braces for heavy weather, small boats advised to stay ashore

PHUKET: The Phuket Marine Office Director Wiwat Chitchertwong has issued a notice to all boat operators calling for them to beware storm conditions and for operators of small boats to refrain from putting to sea from today (May 23) through next Wednesday (May 29).

Thursday 23 May 2019, 06:02PM

“The Thai Meteorological Department (TMD) has issued a weather advisory warning that Phuket will be hit with a week of heavy thunderstorms from May 23 until May 29,” Mr Wiwat said in his notice.

“The storms will bring isolated heavy rain to areas across the South, including Phuket, Ranong, Phang Nga, Krabi, Trang and Satun. Waves are expected to reach more than two metres high,” he added.

“Boat operators should check their boats for safety, that the engine and other equipment on board is in good working order and make sure that all life-saving equipment is ready to use at all times,” Mr Wiwat urged.

“In addition, all passengers should wear life jackets all the times while on the boat, and boat operators are to stay tuned to weather updates from the TMD,” Mr Wiwat said.

"Really people. Why always trashing the authorities? They don't control the weather! Tourists are sometimes too stupid going on boats in bad weather," from ports, of departure, the seas do not look dangerous, obviously you do not think to intelligently. Also, weather reports are in Thai, get my drift... probably not.

This comment Really people. Why always trashing the authorities? They don't control the weather! Tourists are sometimes too stupid going on boats in bad weather," is not really worth any further comment, but the writer needs help, tourist do not know how bad the weather is, it is the officials responsibility to protect them, and ban boats from leaving.. is that so hard to understand?

Authorites don't control the weather, very true! But authorities can control safety of tourists. Do a bit more than just 'advice' small boats not to sail, something the small boats do anyway to make money. What for to have these thai 'Authorities' if thai boat crews not give a damn about their advises and sail out as it pleases them?

Tourists are not just stupid. They buy tour tickets, and when they ask the boat crew or it is safe to make the trip, the thai answer is always 'YES'. The tourists trust on thai safety thinking in trust that the thai know about local weather situations. How can they know that thai 'thinking' is not about their safety, but just about their money?

All chinese passengers, brace for heavy sea inpact before boarding coming days!
You are warned! Remember last year disaster, costing lives of 46 chinese tourists. Passengers not have guarantee about sea worthiness of thai boats. Mr Wiwat and staff have not issued boat safety certificates for that! Sailing? All at own risk.

Well, mr Wiwat, just covered himself (' I told you, not my responsible any further'). When are thai 'water officials' going to dictate what tourist vessels are allowed to do or not during bad weather expectations? This Phuket Marine Office always just 'free wheeling', no authority at all. Poor tourists, who lay their holiday health in hands of such non thai authorities. L...
